Eurotrash's post on tea making finally gives me an excuse to tell you all about George Orwell's best ever piece of writing. Both writers are 100% correct, so pay attention.

McDonald's fries advert is banned

BBC News: "The advert says after selecting certain potatoes 'we peel them, slice them, fry them and that's it'. But complainants said parts of the process had been omitted, such as par-frying, freezing and adding salt and a dextrose sugar solution."

Winchester is where it's at

A friend is pressganged into meeting the Queen..."She wore a green hat and a terrible green outfit. She walked about a bit and pulled a cloth off a plaque. One of the bits of sculpture looked like a penis which kept us amused for about 3 of 30 bloody minutes we had to stand about in the cold waiting for her."

Stargate Atlantis set for summer 2004: A new team of explorers is getting ready to step through the Stargate! GateWorld has confirmed with a reliable source that Stargate Atlantis, the long-planned live-action Stargate spin-off series, has been given a green light to enter production.

My movie page doesn't attract this attention; over at Nackles' book review page author Dougie Brimson has commented on Nackles' review of Billy's Log.

On a side issue, it's taken ten fucking minutes to write this post because of all the right click disabled frame ridden shenanigans Nack inflicts upon his loyal public.

If anyone becomes adept at Tardis Tennis let me know, because it seems to involve an impossible level of keyboard dexterity.

£1 Manchester to Liverpool

No frills bus service launched.
My first thought - "no frills fucking bus? as opposed to the fucking palaces on wheels I usually board?!". But it's apparently not a transit with some beanbags, it's a bus without a ticketmachine which you have to book via the internet. I guess it's an attempt to steal trade from national Express.

MPs vote for water fluoridation

BBC NEWS: "MPs vote for water fluoridation".

Why should you care? Well, hey, if you don't care that something that chemists describe as a violent poison might be shoe horned into your water supply, who am I to persuade you otherwise? But a lot of medical people seem to think that flouridation can cause harm (though plenty more people don't).

Mainly though (and I'm no Jack D Ripper here but...) I don't want my health authority to insert disodium hexafluorosilicate dervived from phosphate fertiliser production into my water supply. Call me faddy, but I just don't.

Stockport currently does not flouridate its water supply. Since 1986, 32% of Wolverhampton supplies have been.

The venom to be felt at Matrix explained because the final film hasn't provided answers is hilarious.

deadmanjones is Teddy Sheringham... You're big and you can look after yourself, but doing things with a touch of class has always been your real trademark.

popisdead is Charlie George... You're reckless, but who cares? Charlie might have looked as if he didn't give a monkey's, but that was for a good reason: He didn't. Won the Cup for Arsenal with a wonder goal in 1971 and how did he celebrate? He had a nice lie down right in the middle of Wembley.

Occasionally there comes a meme that is worthy of the name. Megaman:Titanium Rhapsody is such a meme...

Undoubtedly it'd be even funnier if I'd ever heard of mega man before, but I'm not a gamer. My complete confusion and repeated failure in the Manic Miner clone nackles sent us is proof enough of that.

my monicker means pebble
that their is a Sarmatian tribe of Alans in the Caucasus with at least 2000 years of history behind them
that Pliny the Elder described this tribe as "degenerate bastards"
that an Alans tribe were conquered and integrated into the Roman army and brought to North West England
that as a result the Alans tribe may have been the basis for the Arthurian myth, which may well be a factor in next year's King Arthur...

Stockport Express - News

Stockport is the “most average” place in the UK"...After collecting a mass of data, census experts have found the town - recently branded in a book as the ‘crappest place’ in the UK, to be closest to the British norm.

However Councillor Mark Hunter, leader of Stockport Council, who hit out at the ‘crap’ slur, is also unhappy with the average tag.
