The Killer

Ladies and Gentlemen, please meet Mr Jerry Lee Lewis

He's God's representative on Earth you know. He channels the pure spirit of rock n roll and transmits it to his devout followers via vocals and piano. He is the true king, accept no usurpers.

Over the weeks since buying my ticket I've had to utter the phrase "No he's not dead" so often it's practically become a catchphrase. In the end the jokes about him having to be wheeled on were utterly unfounded. The only testament to his 69 years was the brevity of his set; other than that he still plays and sings like a mother fucker.

Bow down and worship him. Don't bow down and worship support act Raymond Blondell though, who bore more than a passing resemblance to Father Dougal in the Father Ted episode where he impersonated Elvis.

On the eve of the wondrous georgied hosted Family Guy 'athon', I search the web to see what goes down in the world of Stewie and Co. Unusual Pet Names...
"I went to a Nursery School that had a 50% White / 50% Pakistani-Indian make up. When we got a new Rabbit, no one could decide on a name that everyone liked, so there was a compromise to the name that everyone liked. Therefore our Rabbits name was 'Abdul Rodney'."

The rules for Lighter Theft.
"Under no circumstances should a Zippo lighter be stolen, it is strictly forbidden in the lighter thief circle. These lighters can cost £20 or over so stealing this is like stealing an eigth". I'd shop around if I were you.

computing: "WiMax(802.16) [allows] broadband services to be broadcast for up to 30 miles using the radio spectrum...The specification allows a theoretical maximum 28Mbps, but Maloney suggested that most companies were expected to fix at around 10Mbps."

'Mourning sickness is a religion'

Shock horror - a 'think tank' has finally come up with something useful to say.

BBC NEWS | UK | 'Mourning sickness is a religion': "Describing extravagant public displays of grief for strangers as 'grief-lite' Mr West said these activities were, 'undertaken as an enjoyable event, much like going to a football match or the last night of the proms. Mourning sickness is a religion for the lonely crowd that no longer subscribes to orthodox churches. Its flowers and teddies are its rites, its collective minutes' silences its liturgy and mass."

first round second leg

And so Norf, Kirst and the Pod journey to Stockport for the Damien Rice return match. Pod arrives Friday, and we take in a band at the Bakers Vault called Casini, and down much beer and a bottle of red wine on our return home. Saturday and Kirst and Norf eventually arrive, after going on a NackLesesque odyssey around the four corners of Stockport, having failed to find the 2nd Largest Brick Built Structure in Western Europe©®. We go to the Trafford Centre, which wasn't quite as bad as I was expecting for a Saturday. We meet georgied at Waterhouse around 7, and get to the gig at 8. Much beer is consumed, George having already started to drink at 3. georgied drunk is a very friendly person, but is bereft of volume control. His talking through Damien's songs riles a gentleman near him, and the gentlemen explains this to George in a few words of one syllable. George briefly learns his lesson, but quite quickly he needs another gentle reminder. The riled gentleman now seems to feel that one syllable is one syllable too many, so the error of George's nattering was outlined via a quick clout to the back of the head. I'm a mild mannered sort, but when provoked I am quick to act. Without a moment's hesitation, and with no thought to my personal safety, I high tailed it to the t-shirt stall and stayed there until the end of the gig. That showed the fucker. After that - Rusholme, curry, george's house, back Al's, bed.
The gig. Preceded by dull band, who were followed by performance artists. Yes, performance artists. Never mind. Obviously less intimate gig than Brum, but still just as much love for the man in the audience, and the creation of all enveloping walls of sound from the man himself. Far less playing around and experimentation though (but Seven Nation Army played by a cellist is a very enjoyable experience).
Apparently this morning's football game was lost by the Rainbow, Mr Poade remaining motionless on the pitch throughout according to our men at the match. I apologize to the guys at the Rainbow for not getting Mr Poade to bed early enough and for feeding him too much beer. Driving from Stockport to Wolverhampton to play the game can't help either.
Down to Wolverhampton next weekend for Kirst's birthday, and as far as I remember georgied agreed to come too. Not sure whether georgied will remember that though. Very, very drunk. Silly wee fellow.

BBC NEWS:A Swedish firm offers green burials with a difference - corpses are freeze dried and shattered into dust
Currently they use sound waves to shatter it. No doubt when commercially available you could choose a song to shatter by. Or maybe just hand out crickets bats and encourage everyone to take a swing.

atomised

The arrival of atom at blogger means this blog now has a site feed (as does wee Nackles, though this'll be the first he knows about it). The upshot of this is that those of us who use RSS readers can wake up in the morning and check everything at a glance, which is good. And it will please Prandial (though he probably still wants to know what I think of the book. Don't tell him, but I just finished Jeff Noon and now I'm moving on to Will Self. And after that I promised an enemy I'd read Morvern Callar).

To see what all the RSS fuss is, go see my bloglines link, like you know you want to.

US rediscovers breast(s) for first time in forty years

New W3 guidelines state that, as well as making my site CSS compatible, XHTML translatable and Chalk&Slate transferable, I must also make the following comments to ensure that every page on the internet is utterly identical.

This site and all of its contributors are neither furious, offended, embarrassed, disgusted nor apoplectic. We will not sue her, we do not wish her banned from future televised events, we do not wish other TV shows to be censored in case similar bodily parts that other people may or may not have make an appearance, we have no interest in viewing her left breast as well as her right, we do not wish Lord Hutton to investigate and we have not (up until this post) searched the web for references to her. We also do not want to become part of the problem, so will not reference her directly.

We wish Ms. Jackson and her saggy tit well, and we trust medication will soon curtail the strange star-shaped metallic growth that has sprouted around her nip.

We would be grateful if everyone would now shut the fuck up.

He's a 60 minute man

£36 has just bought me one ticket to see Jerry Lee Lewis at the Apollo on Sunday Feb 29th. Tickets went on sale today, I don't expect them to be still on sale tomorrow.

Jerry.
Lee.
Fucking.
Lewis.

I may just wet myself with excitement. Haven't bothered asking anybody else, cos if they didn't want to go see new bands last week then frankly you don't deserve to see the Killer; the TRUE king.
Good month for music ahead. Damien Rice next week, the Killer a fortnight later and Placebo on March 3rd.

feeling hot, hot, hot

Today's partial power loss has led to us all becoming very aware of precisely why server rooms have powerful air conditioning. Leaving the door open and filling the room with every electric fan in the building hasn't really worked.

Actually the power cut was on saturday, which is even more worrying.

NME Awards

Damien Rice is up for best solo artist in the NME awards, so go vote. Your alternatives are Ryan Adams, Har Mar Superstar, Justin Timberlake and Pink, so if you don't vote Damien you're basically saying you're gay. Other things to vote for beneath various headers I'll let you guess at would be Colin and Edith (should win best Soap Opera at this year's TV awards too), Little Britain, The White Stripes, The White Stripes, The White Stripes and Glastonbury (natch).
If you vote for The Darkness in any category I will come round to your house and nail your tongue to the skirting board with a sharpened vegetarian Hot Dog.

nme brats tour mini review

Billy no mates mingles with the young folk...

For the benefit of the hard of hearing I've ringed the aspect of the above ticket I'd like to discuss. Door Open 7.30. Fairly clear that eh? Except doors opened at 6.45, and Franz Ferdinand started at 7.20. If the doors opened at 7.30 when would you arrive? Quite so. By the time I arrived at 8.00 Franz Ferdinand were gone. The only reason I'd bought the tickets in the first place. So, the 3 bands I saw...
  1. Von Bondies: These guys are the genuine article; what Jack White would do if he formed a New York punk band.
  2. The Rapture: Lie somewhere between The Music and The Darkness. Which makes them the perineum.
  3. Funeral for a Friend: The only heavy rockers I officially condone. These guys will take over the world

A drunkard greets me as I preambulate homewards. "You big foreheaded fucker" he ejaculates, in case, perchance, I had forgotten. It matters not; the only tune playing in my head is the tune I didn't hear - Franz Ferdinand's. And so...
