Battle of the Beanfield
“What we - the ITN camera crew and myself as a reporter - have seen in the last 30 minutes here in this field has been some of the most brutal police treatment of people that I’ve witnessed in my entire career as a journalist. The number of people who have been hit by policemen, who have been clubbed whilst holding babies in their arms in coaches around this field, is yet to be counted...”
Where? Stonehenge 19 years ago. As friends make their way down there this week it's worth reading up on the 'Battle of the Beanfield'

Stockport Express - News
Tower block arson final straw for residents : "The fire started at 11.45pm on Monday when arsonists set ablaze a settee, which had been dumped in the lobby of the council-owned Pendlebury Towers, on Lancashire Hill. Thick, black smoke was soon billowing up the lift shaft, where ventilation pipes had been plugged with insect repellent sheets. Within minutes, residents on the top floors were opening their doors to smoke."
Actually, I wasn't. I was with Zoe downstairs trying to get in. With one lift destroyed, one being commandeered by the firefighters, and the stairs billowing with smoke this proved difficult however. I stayed at Zoe's in the end.
Thus far our experience of anti-social youths has been several terrifying encounters in the lift for Zoe. On one occasion she was put through the horrendous ordeal of being asked about her hair extensions by an 11 year old. On another she was ambushed by seven year olds who, with no thought for her safety, told her she was sexy. But the final straw came yesterday when a couple of 16 year olds ruthlessly answered Zoe's queries about the fire in an unpityingly helpful way. The bastards.

Sick Animal by Paul Loudon
Went to the Salford Uni Degree Show at the Bridgewater to see a tiny bit more of Sara La Brow's excellent colour abstracts, and saw graphic designs for a range of "Sick Animal" merchandising by Paul Loudon which we found very, very funny. Congratulations card showing an animal giving the thumbs up from the end of a noose particularly amusing. I can't show you any of it so you'll have to take my word for it. Just wanted to get the words Paul Loudon and Sick Animal on Google really...

Terra Grass Armchair
I'd need to get a garden, but I still want a Terra Grass Armchair...
"assemble the sturdy cardboard frame into its chair-like shape, fill the structure with soil and plant the grass seeds. Water regularly and before long you'll have your very own organic chair."

Sir Paul reveals Beatles drug use
The day after I discover I'm seeing The Rutles, one of the best jokes in the All You Need is Cash documentary is ruined by one of The Beatles revealing it's true. Yes, Paul McCartney used tea: "Sir Paul also revealed that he and fellow Beatle John Lennon had dabbled with another addictive substance during their schooldays - tea. 'We'd stuff some Twining Tea in a pipe, smoke that and write songs.'"
